About My Hobby

Most of my underwater time is spent with my buddy Rob exploring the nooks and crannies of reefs at a depth of anything from 6 to 18 metres, at these shallower depths the cold is our first concern way before we have to worry about our air consumption levels. It also allows us to take photos in more natural light conditions, although we have found the reefs exploding with life on most of our night dives. We are fortunate to each own a small D.P.V. (Diver Propulsion Vehicle) which can get us to sites much further than we could even think of reaching safely by finning, they are also a joy to use in currents.

Although the main equipment required for recreational diving is quite expensive, once I had got it bit by bit, the air fills and bits and bobs are very reasonable, being a member of my local dive centre the price for an air fill is £1.50, that can't be bad for over an hours enjoyment getting to see stuff that not a great deal of people get to see, plus the fact who knows what treasures may pop up one day (I live in hope).

Photographic kit I use.

Camera -Pentax Optio 430RS.

Housing-Pentax O-WP1.

Camera - Olympus Mju750.

Housing - Olympus PT-034.

The D.P.V. we use is the Seadoo, it has a rechargeable battery life of up to 90 minutes and can reach a speed of 3mph. We have weighted them to be neutrally buoyant and they are small enough to be transported easily. They are depth rated to 30 metres and weigh about 8kg with battery.

Video Camera - Canon MV750i.

Housing - Ikelite.

Lights - Ikelite Pro Video-Lite II.
